My blog posting does not refer to the neat bloom of this 'Seriously Scarlet' breadseed poppy (Papaver somniferum) in my front yard. I took this photo on Friday and as I was looking closer at the flower, I noted a Japanese beetle in the center of the flower (bottom left of the yellow center structure) and realized it was the first Japanese beetle I've seen yet this season. However, many of our volunteers have reported seeing them this year already too! We'll see what kind of year it is with these voracious eaters. This week will be busy with more planting and I give a presentation to the Noon Rotary Club tomorrow. They will have a planting role at the gardens later tomorrow afternoon as well.
