Perfect Weather

What a great weekend! The weather was perfect and probably exactly what everyone has been waiting for over the past 7 weeks! Note American ginger (Asarum canadense) nestled above next to a mossy log. The European ginger (Asarum europaeum) is shorter with smaller leaves that are super glossy. Both are great groundcovers for part shade.
Notice the ornamental onion (Allium 'Purple Sensation') that
is poking up thru a woody plant with nice variegated foliage. This plant is the variegated fiveleaf aralia which has an even longer Latin name of Eleutherococcus sieboldianus 'Variegatus'. This shrub does well in part shade and offers a punch of color with the conspicuous creamy variegation that glows in a darker location. This shrub, reaching a height of 6' or so, will also tolerate dry shade as well. It also has thorns and doesn't seem to be tasty (yet) to the resident gang of deer. Should be a good week coming up if we can dodge some of the rains and get out there and plant like crazy.
