Plant Sale Focus

Today was a crazy day from start to finish although we had a great grounds crew and many wonderful volunteers to help with a wide range of tasks out in the gardens and set-up progress also related to our Spring Plant Sale which starts this weekend.  There is a pre-sale on Friday (May 8th) for RBG Friends Members (10% off) which will run from 9 am until 4 pm.  Folks can become members that day if they like and shop immediately.  The sale continues for the public on Saturday May 9th and Sunday May 10th (also 9 am until 4 pm) although RBG Members can continue to enjoy the 10% discount those days as well.  We will be offering a wide range of vegetables with a strong focus on tomatoes (many heirlooms) and peppers.  We'll also have lots of herbs, perennials, shrubs, pansies and much more.  Our website at www.rotarybotanicalgardens.org has some more detailed plant lists.

I didn't even make it in to the gardens today and found myself involved with plant deliveries, plant pick ups and lots of bouncing between various tasks, phone calls, etc.  All the photos in this blog were taken out in the gardens recently by Ken Tapp who shared these with me (thanks Ken!).  It was a busy day but much was accomplished.  Big John, Terry, Cindy, Cheryl (half day) and Larry all had a wide range of tasks including assistance with plant sale preparations.  Everyone also had garden duties as we need to keep the gardens looking good for a busy weekend of visitors over the Mother's Day holiday.

Volunteers today included Dick H., Dick P, Lloyd, Ron R., Alan, Ron P., Vern, Dave, Ron Y., Del, Dr. Gredler, Gary, Maury, Rollie, Eva, Peg, Pat C., Pat M., Art, Chuck S., Tina B., and many others.  My lack of description over their triumphs and exploits is simply due to low energy.  We did see progress with a fountain going in, more carpentry output, lots of weeding, mulching, mowing, etc.  Thus begins an epic week of preparations for this plant sale which is one of our top three fundraisers for the year so we hope for nice weather and substantial crowds.
