We had a very successful work day this morning with 24 volunteers coming in to help plant the Smelly Garden as well as three other smaller areas. This group included many of our veteran volunteers as well as some of our new ones as well. Janice, Big John and Larry were all helpful in helping facilitate the work day and our traditional Saturday tasks. Today also has many scheduled weddings and the Morning Rotary Pie Ride created some congestion near the gardens too. Marianne came in as well and did a nice job tidying the front of the building which was timely as there was a rude/messy wedding reception last night that created quite a mess for us (cigarette butts, beer bottles, etc.). Bill O. was in to help Larry and we also saw Dr. Gredler, Dr. Yahr, Hal, Doris, Maury and many others. With rain arriving around 10 am (finished by 11 am), we were happy for the moisture but still continued to run sprinklers and water in all the new plantings. With this being our last planting work day, I'm so pleased with the planting progress over the entire spring. We still have quite a few plants to install but will continue to do that throughout the weekdays! We are just starting to receive plant "freebies" from area nurseries and will use those as needed.
